A LONG AWAITED RETURN
Huỳnh Anh Schroeder
A love rendezvous was our parting deal,
On the day you left for the battlefield,
Today in the canon salvo flying over the Arlington cemetery,
We finally greet you home, husband and father, hero of the country.
Fifty years of heartbreaking longing, parting journey,
Since your wings broke on a faraway land on that fateful day,
Our tears have paved your way to heaven kingdom,
Our hearts have been with you on each of your step away from home.
Fifty years of an every night and a life missing you,
Wrapping myself in your soldier coat, praying for your safe return,
I tried to bring back the essence of our love, the scent of you,
Forever lingering in the dew of the lonely nights, in fogs and tears blurred.
Fifty years, my tears have accompanied your last fly,
From a sorrowful war land to the heaven of peace,
A blessed kingdom of serenity in the sky,
Where love reigns in all supremacy and glorious justice.
Blessed is the day you come home to our land, our family, our heart, our soul,
Sharing the shining sacrifice of your comrades-in arms, in your noble fights,
Sharing a common resting place in the hearts of all our people,
We at last can pour our grievance and say our last goodbye.
Finally on your grave, I can wish you lasting peace,
And renew our vows of love and caring,
This world of turmoil and heartbreak transcending,
Shining a new beginning in a kingdom of eternal love and peace.
